The 2010 Children's Hospital Annual Report.
We know that Children’s Hospital Central California makes a fantastic first impression. It is the kind of place that lives up to its slogan - amazing people providing incredible care. Our first months in our positions have proven that this idea is rock solid, and it keeps getting better and better. But this kind of quality care didn’t come about overnight. It took a lot of people, a lot of hard work, and a long time to make Children’s the regional pediatric powerhouse it is today.
As someone once said, we can see far because we stand on the shoulders of giants. A couple of those giants were previous chief executive officers Dr. J.D. Northway, whose vision became reality with an expansive new facility, and William F. Haug, an incredible leader who grew that vision into a regional pediatric medical center.
As we grip the torch that they have handed us, we are proud to become stewards of their legacies. There are so many others, as well. Past board chair Greg Coleman, other board members, Guild members, staff and physicians - 60 years of names and faces who have left an imprint on this institution. They all accomplished so much, moved Children’s forward, and we doubt that any of them ever thought they were anywhere near “done.” And neither are we.
We have to grow. We have to improve. We have to constantly get better to meet the needs of the Valley’s kids and their families. The stories in this report are about strengthening our core services. They are about the ways we question ourselves in order to get better, to improve at the little things so we can be great at the big things.
These kids we treat, they are very strong. They face the kinds of adversity in their young lives that many of us will never see. But our history, and all the people who have carved that history, have proven one thing - when our children can’t be strong enough, we are here to be strong for them. All of them, always.
